Carol Stymiest
Past: Campaign Associate at Triangle United Way
http://www.linkedin.com/in/carolstymiestWith almost half of Triangle residents coming from somewhere else, organizing an employee event around the holidays to give back to our local community, is a great way for employees to both connect to our community and to each other. At a former employer, we "adopted" a family through a non-profit organization, and supplied the complete event, from dinner, to age appropriate toys for the kids. I still remember some of the thank you notes that we received over the years. Having just completed a short term assignment at the Triangle United Way, I highly recommend clicking on Volunteer Solutions at unitedwaytriangle.org , or simply calling 211 to find the right activity for your group! Wishing you all the best of the season!

Susan Clark
Owner at Signs By Design
http://www.linkedin.com/in/signsbydesignWe have made banners and other printed signs for non-profits and donated them, as long as it says "Banner Donated By (our logo)" on the lower right corner. I obviously can't do this all of the time but I try to a few times per year...maybe once a quarter? Other times I will cut a discount. Generally I like to donate for fundraisers for causes such as MS, Breast Cancer, Parkinsons, Autism and shelters or women and children safe place orgs.
Melissa McCaslin
Interim Regional Vice President of Marketing and Communications at American Lung Association of the Atlantic Coast
http://www.linkedin.com/in/melissamccaslinI sit on the Board of Directors for the Triangle American Marketing Association, and although we are a nonprofit ourselves, this year we embarked on an initiative to give back to our community as well. We are supporting Dignity U Wear, a nonprofit that provides brand new clothing to those in need through recipient agencies. Since its inception, Dignity U Wear has provided over 100,000 pieces of clothing for those in need right here in the Triangle.
Triangle AMA is supporting Dignity U Wear by providing volunteers to share their marketing expertise as well as planning and promoting events. It's a great chance to utilize our talents to help others. Read more about it at [

Anora McGaha
Internet Publicist, Writer, Coach at ClearSight Creative Resources
http://www.linkedin.com/in/anoramcgaha I'm in business for myself, but I volunteer with Interact, www.interactofwake.org a very amazing agency that utilizes so many volunteers it would make your jaw drop. And the service that's available for domestic abuse and sexual assault would make a person cry, knowing that Interact staff and volunteers are available 24/7 to answer calls. We have a full time court advocate, over 40 hours a week availability for walk in counseling for domestic violence, an advocate who will meet survivors (victims) at the hospital.
This week I took some food to Western Wake Crisis Ministry in downtown Apex - paying it forward after a stranger paid for my gas one day when I forgot my wallet wake.mync.com/site/Wake/news/story/14312 - and saw an employee of Extreme Networks dropping off a truckload of food - not the Mack trucks, but the ordinary kind that Americans use to bring project materials home from Lowes and Home Depot. That was a lot of food!
The local online micro-business network inSide919 inside919.ning.com is doing a food drive this month.
